In these two chapters their is not really a narrator, only someone telling us the story, O'Brien also tells this story in third person. I think O'Brien chooses to write this way because he is trying to show the readers that it is to hard to write about yourself personally killing someone. It seems like O'Brien has a problem admitting to himself that he killed someone.
O'Brien knows many details about the man he killed, I think he knows all of these details because the person he killed had a special impact on him. Even if O'Brien didn't pay much attention to the man he killed after, he still saw him dead, for at least a second. Killing someone can be very traumatic, leaving every detail in your mind. I think the details that come from the man O'Brien killed are just details from every person he saw dead in the war.

sweetheart of the song tra bong
In the chapter " Sweetheart of the song tra bong" what transforms Mary Anne into a killer was that she became one with Vietnam. Mary got so involved in to Vietnam that she forgot who she really was. Forgetting herself doesn't scare Mary the way it scares the soldiers, because Mary can leave anytime she'd like to, but the boys cant. I think the boys are so scared of learning about Vietnam and putting themselves out there because the idea of home, and who they will be and what they will do when they get back, is all they really have to hold on to.
In this chapter O'Brien lets Rat Kiley tell part of the story, I think O'Brien lets him do that, so the readers have a perspective from another person. Rat tells the story well, and gives the readers more information to grab on to. I think Rat fits the criteria well. O'Brien does it better, but Rat still does a good job at it.

Spin
" All that peace man, it felt so good it hurt. I want to hurt it back. "
What This Quote from O'Brien's " Peace story" says about the Vietnam war is that they didn't achieve anything. They spent more then ten years fighting for something, that turned into less then what it already was. Vietnam was finally at peace, but he still wanted to hurt it back because he didn't achieve anything fighting for it. You are only at true peace when you have completed your goal, and there is nothing else to fight for because you have won it all, but the states lost this war, leaving some of the soldiers thinking they were at peace, when they really weren't.
What this quote says about peace is that it is not really peace if you want to hurt it. Saying you want to hurt peace back means that you are not at peace, and you haven't achieved anything, because you are still fighting with it. This quote means that if you are still in a war in your mind then you are not at peace.
War Letters
Dear mom,
The war is not as scary as we had predicted it to be. The guys here are a lot of fun, their all crazy, which helps take away from the seriousness of everything else. I know you must be worried, but I encourage you not to be. The food is alright and I have gotten used to the " beds " we sleep in since the last time I have talked to you. Time is going by fast and before you know it, it will be christmas and I will be back home with you guys!
Last week one of the boys got killed, it wast quite devastating, I think that was the only night the boys weren't happy. It was like the reality of the war hit us, even me. But I promise you I wont think about death to much, I hope you don't either. Please let everyone know I am doing alright, and share this letter to papa, tell him I love him with all my heart, and I miss him so very much. I hope you are all doing good, and the house is holding up alright. I hope to hear from you soon, miss you so much, love you!
Ps: See you soon. take care.
I chose to write to my mom because I know she would be nervous and worried for me, I also knew writing to her would settle he for a little while, till I can write again. I love my mom very much and we both have the same worries and fears. If my mom received my letter I know it would brighten her day.
In my letter I hid some things from my mom. I didn't tell her how scared I was, and how much I hated being here, I could have told her these things, but I didn't. The reason I didn't mention these things to my mom was because I did not want her to worry about me and I did not want her to be scared as much as me. I rather make my mothers day happy, then sadden her with my words. I know my mom would do the same to me.

The things they carried.
In my purse I carry:
- Cellphone&charger
- Pony tales
- money
- chocolate
- tissues
- lip gloss
- Pen
- Concealer
- mascara
- Calcium Antacid
If I had to choose only two of these items to take with me wherever I go, I would choose my cellphone and my Calcium Antacid ( for the stomach) I would take my cellphone with me because it helps me talk to people and stay in touch and if I ever got hurt or in trouble I could just call my parents or friends to help me. My cellphone has everything I need to keep me occupied, I can chat, play games, go on the internet, twitter, Facebook. I take my cellphone with me every where I go.
I would bring my Calcium Antacid with me because I suffer from bad stomach aches, and whenever I get an ache I take one. Calcium Antacid are small pills that taste like mint, you place them on your tongue and let it melt in your mouth, after five minutes your stomach ache should be gone. I would choose this item because it helps me everyday when I don't feel well. Those are my two items that I would bring with me if I could only bring two.
The Vietnam war
Today in class I learned that we would be reading " The things they carried" by Tim O'Brien. To understand the novel we had to first understand where it took place and the circumstances of the setting they were in. The setting in the book takes place in Vietnam during the war. Before starting the discussion about the book, I first wrote down some questions I wanted to know about the Vietnam war. The questions I wanted to know were: What caused the war? How long did the war last? Who was fighting in the war? What were they fighting for? and what was the outcome of the war?
During the discussion, all of my questions were answered, not only helping my knowledge towards the book, but also my knowledge about the world. I learned that the Vietnam war was caused because of the United states fear of Communism spreading through South-east Asia. The Vietnam war lasted more then 10 years and the fight was between the North Vietnamese and the South Vietnamese, the Americans were supporting the South. The outcome of the war was that the capital of South Vietnam, Saigon, fell. And the North occupied the entire country. The united states lost. The class discussion taught me a lot, and has helped me to understand the book.

I am from...
I am from sunshine and snow
from rainbows and stars
I am from the driveway leading down the road
( bumpy, hot, only cold when it snows )
I am from the rose buds in the backyard
The straweberry bush just starting to grow
I am from Flan y arroz con pollo
from fresh maple syrup and a red proud leaf
Im from christmas dinners
and thanksgiving lunch out on the lake
from suck it up and stay strong
im from never give up
with you can do it
and your alright
Im from esprit dr. and the park down the street
hot dogs and chips
im from the toe leo lost cutting the grass,
and the back my mom hurt shuveling the snow
In my dresser a lost necklace lay
spilling old memories
remembering faces
telling stories in my sleep
I am from times like these
gone before remembered
blossomed before forgotten
I am from fallen red leaves
on a trail leading to a waterfall
where photos are taken.
and while walking to the kitchen every morning
I pass by them and smile.

Gray cloud - 2126-60

Benjamin moore
by:Miranda Anderson
On a summers day
the gray clouds sang
rapid rain fell from above
the ocean slapped from side to side
adding on to the pain
her tears dripped down her face
drip, drip, drip
blue eyes turned to cold crystal
her feet touching the shore line
the rain hitting against her skin
the rain calming down
she felt more vulnerable
walking farther into the cold water
almost up to her chest.
her screams for everyone to hear
for him to hear
for her to hear.
her closed eyes
told her she was ready.
but the thunder and winds kept her,
from everything she fears
so she has forgotten the hate
and even though it rains she will never look back upon that day.
The storm will pass
and the gray clouds that once sang
will forget.

The right thing.
Segregation used to be a way of life a few years ago, but after the first black president - Borrack Obama - was elected, there was nothing else to think except, the country has developed in a better way; however it seems no one has changed from there old ways.
On Febuary 26, 2012, young 17 - year - old Tryvon Martin was shot coming back from buying candy at a convenience store - Ice tea, and skittles - was what was bought. Martin was wearing a hoodie, and was unarmed. The killer name is Geaorge Zimmerman, and he is not found guilty yet. The citizens of the U.S want him behind bars, and wont stop until he is.
George Zemmerman defended himslef by saying he shot the boy out of self defence, even though when he had called the police, they told him to stay put, do not do anything, they would be there in five minutes. Ovbiously Zemmerman did not listen, seeing as how he ended up shooting the boy, and killing him. I feel that people have a great responsibilitie to do the right thing and protect each other. The shooting could have happend to anyones child, imagine if it was yours.
Zemmerman feared that Martin was " Up to no good " and that it was his joib to take care of it. Zemmerman ovbiously had feared the boy, because Martin ended up dead.
I feel that this generation stereotyping has such an impact on the personalities of one another. Zemmerman killed a young boy, because he was black, and because he was wearing a hoodie - which I guess all the bad guys do now a days - that is gender stereotyping, it happens so much that people stop realizing that they are. One day someone is going to wake up and realize that what they have done was hurtful, stereotyping and careless and can lead to so many things.
George Zemmerman deserves to be behind bars for what he did.

To kill a mocking bird.
Autumn turned to winter this year, Atticus said it aint snowed since 1985, and Mr. Avery blame it on us! He says bad children like us make the weather change.Since the weather was so BIZZARE, me and jem decided to enjoy it, because it was IMMINENT that in a couple of days we'd be SWELTERING in the heat again. Jem and I wanted to make a snow man, Atticus told us there was no way we'd ever get enough snow, so me and Jem CONSPIRED ways to get more snow, we finally decide to take the snow from miss Maudi's garden. We ASSIMILATED the snow, and moved it over to our garden. We made the perfect snow man, that looked axactly like Mr. Avery. Me and Jem loved our snow men, and so did Atticus, but he said Mr.Avery would have a DISSENSION, and take it seriously, so we disguised it with Miss Maudi's hat.
That night the weather became CALAMITOUS, Atticus came into my room several times to keep the fire going. Late at night, something awoke me, it was so late I thought it was morning - it was Atticus. I guess the idea that something bad could be happening slipped my mind. Atticus led me and Jem out the door, and in front of my very eyes I saw fire reach across the house of Miss Maudi. Atticus ended up saving her vauluable chair, but the house was left as a hole by the end of the night.
The next day I sat at the kitchen table with Jem and Atticus, Atticus pointed out the blanket I was wrapped around in. The blanket was brown and warm, I gave it a METICULOUS look, then realized that the blanket I was wearing, was indeed not mine. Jem thought about the blanket for a while, then finally APREHENDED what could have been the reason the un-familiar blanket was on me. Boo Radley. He must of put the blanket on me when I was sitting down looking at the fire last night, The thought gave me shivers crawling down my back.
Things have still been a bit bizarre, and I have still had my moments when I wanted to shoots someone head off, but I havent because I still have my promise with Atticus.
To be honest, I like the chaos. It bring us close together.

The secret life of bees
Dear Lily,
I know it's been some time since we last spoke, and I know I have left you not to forgive me ever again. I just wanted to say that I missed you, and that everything I did was for your own well being - Even though I made it seem that my life would be better off without you.
When I drove away that day, I looked back to the old big pink house and was certain that your life without me would be okay, August raised your mother, so she could raise you too. It was bizarre to me how such a blessing like you could have me as a father, I had to let you go Lily, or you would never have known what it would feel like to be special, and to be loved. Every night I looked at of your bedroom window, I was silent and still, and just before I was about to give up, those little bee's appeared, flying all around me- it was like a dream, they were strong, but soft and gentle, and I would cry, just knowing that everything you told me was true.
After a couple of months, I finally came to the aprehended why you did what you did, and that I was an awful person. I swear to you Lily that I have changed, I havent even seen a single grit since I saw you last. I knew that you were going to be all right, they lionized you, and that was something that I could never do for you. I was never really ready for a little girl like you, and after your mom died it made it that much harder. Every second of the day you grew more and more like her- her smile, her blue eyes, her pale white skin, and her beautiful smile - you had it all, and that scared me.
As you got older you would Interigate me about your mom, I lied to you for my own selfish needs, I wasn't trying to protect you - Like a father should- I was trying to protect myself, I couldn't handle the fact that she loved you more then she had ever once loved me. I was mad that she went back looking for you, and not for me - Thats why all my life I have always been mad at you- and for that I apoligize greatly.
The time has elapsed since I last saw you. As you know Lily I am an old man now, and I am not getting any younger, if there is even the slightest possibility that you will come and see me before I am dead and gone, please do. It'll break my heart if I never see you again.
Ps: My feeling have came back to me now, and I watch a sad movie every tuesday just to cry again.
Truly yours - T- Ray.

The secret life of Bee's.
Throughout the story Lily has to go through many obstacles, and many lies to get to the truth.
" The secret life of Bee's " by Sue Monk Kidd is about a young girl who grows up without a mother, struggles with her father and is never pretty enough to flatter herself, or the kids at school.
Everyone goes through things in life that makes them a different person, its not that the person has changed intentionally, its that the things the have gone through and seen has made them a bigger person. Lily has gone through many things as a child, she has had to deal with negative people and negative energy all of her life, and the only bit of love and hope was Rosaleen. Lily grew as a person the moment she stood up for herself and for what she believes in.
Lily has grown up as a person in the way that she stood up to T-Ray, saved Rosaleen, and has ran away from home. The secret life of Bee's is also a coming of age novel. Lily falls in love with Zack, but the society they live in would never let them be together. Lily risks her life, and her future to be with the people she loves, and the boy she likes. Lily knows that one wrong move could ruin everything and get her back in the hellhole she has to call home, but she risks it anyways.
Even though Lily has matured throughout this story she still needs the things children must have, like hope, dreams, love, and happiness. Staying in the honey house with three woman has helped lily. In a way August, Rosaleen, and June are all her mothers that Lily has never had.
" I have more mothers than any eight girls off the street. They are the moon shining over me. "
This quote really shows the real feelings of lily, and that feeling, is proud. Lily is still a child in many ways, Lily needs love, and she needs attention, but the biggest thing is happiness.
Lily knew what she wanted, and she set out to do it. Lily faced her fears, even though that was what she lacked the most. Lily matured greatly through her journey to the truth. In the beginning she didn't even know where she was going, or how she was going to get there, but she knew that she could. Lily's story was super sweet, and really heart-touching, the message to her story was clear, and Lily got to be happy, longer then she had ever been happy before.

The Problems We Live With.
The problems with live with was painted by a very talented artist by the name of Norman Rockwell. This photo was painted in 1964 and to me represents strength.
When I look at this picture I see a little innocent girl walking to school, not doing any harm, just minding her own business, but still getting hated on. In the picture you can see four Marshall's surrounding her, there are mean and cruel words on the wall, and things getting thrown at her. I think on her way to school she realizes that she is not welcome.
In the back round there are faded words, and faded paint, there is a splattered tomato all over the wall and floor, but I think out of all of that hatred this is just scared people that don't know much about change.
I feel like the surrounding is very grey and dull and the only thing that is really vibrant and eye popping is the little girl, I think the artist did that to make sure people get the real idea, and who it really is about. On the little girl's face I can't really see any emotion, her face is dull, and unaware.
When I look at this painting the little girl makes me feel like she is strong, and proud, her chin is up and her back is straight, she is proud that she is going to school. She must be a little bit scared because of all of the men surrounding her, but I don't think that she is totally aware why.
I think that the artist intended the painting to show the horrible things going on in that time, but also the little tiny things that you could tell weren't that bad, like her little books, I think that's so adorable! I also love her dress, and I think that the artist meant for the color of her pretty dress to mean equality, that it's just a color, nothing important, especially to her.
I think that the artist painted this picture so wonderfully that it looks real! I admire the colors he used in the painting, and just looking at this picture even for one minute I can understand how hard it must have been back in those days.
